Indian American Wedding | Jeena & Shaun

About two months ago I got an “instant message” through The Pros, about a potential wedding in Coral Springs, FL.  This new service with The Pros is one that features an interactive Q&A between the photographers and the clients.  Turns out it was Jeena, and her first question was a pretty straight forward one.  If I remember correctly it was something like this: ‘Do you have any experience documenting Indian weddings?’

Now, here’s my predicament. I have never shot an Indian wedding, so the quick answer would be a lame ‘no’.  However, I have ALWAYS wanted to cover an Indian wedding so I felt like I couldn’t let this one pass! So I think I used every ounce of ‘proper English +  sweet talk’ I had in my bag hoping I could score this one.  In the end, Jeena and her bridesmaids were SUPER gracious and basically guided me through the process, gave me some ideas and even challenged my creativity on-the-spot!

As the evening was coming to an close, I ended up striking up a conversation with two of the bridesmaids about the flow of the day, different vendors and photography.  That’s when one of them, Harpreet, told me we totally rocked covering this wedding, and we should be more proactive advertising within the Hindi market.  Harpreet was right.  This is something I’d totally love to do again! I absolutely LOVED the traditional Indian gowns, the colors, jewelery, music, food, vibe, and of course… the people!.  It was a total pleasure working with Jeena and Shaun and we wish them nothing but the very best.

Special thanks to Joe Long for assisting me on this wedding.  Also to Phyllis Hoynacky, Director of Catering from the Marriott Coral Springs for an outstanding service. To look at more pics feel free to check out The Pros’ website gallery here.

For this slideshow I have chosen to use a song one of the bridesmaids sang at their wedding. This song, Kuch Kuch Hota Hai (translated: If Something Happens) is the soundtrack of a hindi romantic movie released in 1998. Enjoy!
