About five months ago I had the opportunity to have dinner with my rep from The Pros, Grace Albion, and as a branch we discussed the possibilities of covering weddings at the ultra cool and modes B Ocean Hotel in Fort Lauderdale, FL. Well, this became a reality this past week when I had the pleasure to cover the wedding of Itzel and Thatcher!

This was the first time EVER I had absolutely zero communication with the couple prior to their wedding, and I have to admit I was freaking out (on the inside of course). The fact that they were coming from Panama I’m sure was a factor, but anytime you just ‘show up’ for an event there’s a risk of being taken as ‘a photographer’, ‘the guy with a camera’ or simply a ‘hired hand’. None of that happened with Itzel and Thatcher. They were nothing but awesome, approachable and great to hang out with!

It was was a very intimate gathering on a very windy evening. The chairs and arch were waiting on the beach right across the hotel, and as folks started crossing AIA an air of celebration and accomplishment began taking over the place. Procession, rings, vows, hugs and kisses were the ever present note at Itzel’s wedding, and all done in a very personal way.
The reception dinner was held at the exquisite SAIA and boy oh boy everything from beginning to end was nothing short of excellent. Speaking of hospitality and good food, Thatcher and Itzel kept insisting for me to join the table and partake of the feast with them. There was just one small detail… I’m vegetarian and I haven’t had meat in almost a full year! Needless to say, in the end I couldn’t be the ‘downer’ of the party, so I did fall for some sushi and I tell you it was SO yummy that I didn’t mind claiming my only meat intake of the year a delicious sushi alongside great people and such a great couple.
Special thanks to Grace Albion for referring this wedding to me. Also thanks to my fellow Dominican DJ WillyMix for taking on a challenging windy day and creating a fun and enjoyable atmosphere. Last but not least thank you Itzel and Thatcher for being such a great couple and it is set, next time I’m in Panama we most definitely should get together and grab some coffee!
