Pancake Supper

In an effort to include whoever is leading Children’s Church in our Communion Service, our church has decided to call in all the kids and consequently their teacher back into the Sanctuary about ten minutes earlier that way they will be able to partake in the table of the Lord.
The plan was simple: ten minutes before the end of the service the teacher and the kids would come in discretely and sit in the front pew. As the adults go through the line they would pick up their child on their way “out”.
One of those kids was our six year old, Jillian, who previous to that Sunday I don’t remember ever taking communion. After we arrived to the “service station” Jillian then meets us and motions to us implying that she’d like to take the bread and dip it in the cup. In all honesty we didn’t think a whole lot about it, so we let her.
After returning to our pew we asked her “so Gigi, how was that?” to what she replied, “I didn’t like it”. Well, we couldn’t just leave it there so we asked her why she didn’t like it and she responded, “I thought it was going to be PANCAKE and SYRUP”. No wonder why she didn’t like it!!!
There are many situations in which I form an opinion of something based on ½ impressions and ½ my imagination. Let us be open to people, situations and especially God. Let us stay clear from forming permanent images when appearances are our main source.
Open your mouth and taste, open your eyes and see—
how good God is.
Blessed are you who run to him.
